LETTERS SEPTEMBER 2003
TWO TRAGEDIES It would seem to me that the people who are attending Mass at St. Angela's Church in Pacific Grove, such as described in the article in your recent issue [see Roamin' Catholic, July/August Faith], are out to attend something that is a far cry from Sacred Liturgy. How Mr. Frankini could remain for the entire Mass is beyond me, but then maybe he was curious as to see and hear what they would do next. The choice of music was pitiful. How all of this has happened to our beloved Catholic Church is more than distressing. It is a tragedy. And the priests that are going along with all of this is another tragedy. I shudder to think what Our Lord is saying. Perhaps it is, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." Judy Knutsen Stockton
BITTER FRUITS Christopher Zehnder's article about the San Jose diocese's plan for renewal exposes the nonsense and stupidity so common in the Catholic Church these days. [See "We Don't Want to be Silly," July/August Faith.] The fact that of 600,000 Catholics in the diocese, only 100,000 gather for Mass on Sundays appears of no concern to Bishop Patrick McGrath or to the over-the-hill liberated nun, the mouthpiece of the diocese. The statement by Sister Mitchell, "we're not looking at trying to convert everybody to Catholicism," was moronic. In other words, it matters not what one believes, one religion is as good as the other. This mentality has caused havoc in our Catholic Church for the last 35 years. Let's face it. Most of our American Catholic bishops have been and are terrible failures! These corrupt and weak men allowed "homo"philes to molest boys by covering up and transferring them from diocese to diocese where they continue to molest innocent boys again and again. The countless millions paid by our bishops to settle lawsuits brought on by the victims of molester priests could have been used instead to preach morality and the authentic orthodox teachings of the Church. Sister Pat Mitchell made another nonsense statement: "our diocese is a microcosm of the new world in which a new world Church is struggling to be born." Sister Mitchell, you appear to have oatmeal where your brains should be. "Struggling," indeed, are we loyal orthodox Catholics to live our faith in Jesus Christ who established one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church, which to Sister Mitchell appears to be just a club, not very different from a secular organization. Dear Lord, deliver from the stupidity of some of our Church leaders. The prophet Hosea said centuries ago, "my people perish for lack of knowledge." Jesus said it best, "by their fruits you shall know them." The fruits of our Catholic Church leaders in the last 35 years have been for the most part bitter indeed. C.N. Santos Atascadero
